Blue Vinyl is an award winning comic documentary film that follows the production and environmental effects of Vinyl siding. The filmmaker sets out on a toxic odyssey to discover the nature of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) after her parents' decision to "re-side" their house.

October 2, Saturday - SOLAR TOUR 2004
Multiple sites throughout Washtenaw County.

The Solar Tour 2004 for Washtenaw County will feature over twenty homes and buildings that display solar electric, solar thermal, passive solar and sustainable design. The tour is self-guided (with a map); sites are located throughout Washtenaw County. Most sites will be staffed by the homeowner and/or by others who can answer questions about the solar features. The Solar Tour will begin from four starting sites around Washtenaw County, at which a tour guide may be obtained giving directions to all of the sites. Food will be available at the starting sites. Additionally, a biking tour will visit several Ann Arbor sites. Music will be on hand to launch the tour from the Malletts Creek branch of the Ann Arbor District Library. The four starting sites are:
- the Ann Arbor District Library Mallett's Creek branch, 3090 E. Eisenhower Parkway, Ann Arbor,
- the Ypsilanti Library main branch, 299 W. Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti,
- Recycle Ann Arbor's En-House, 2420 S. Industrial Hwy, Ann Arbor, and
- Leslie Science Center Nature House, 1831 Traver Road, Ann Arbor.
Participants will be asked to sign a liability waver before receiving a tour guide. For more details email or call (734) 994-4937.

Solar Tour 2004 Washtenaw is organized in cooperation with the sustainability series events presented by the Ann Arbor District Library and the Ypsilanti District Library. This tour is part of the American Solar Energy Society's 9th Annual National Solar Tour.

There will be live music to start the event at the Mallets's Creek branch of the public library.

Come hear Danielle Conroyd, IHM, describe the new mission for the order and the practical reality of a convent campus existing more gently on the earth.

This class will provide an introduction to "Green Building" design and is intended as a primer for anyone with an interest in learning how to make the built environment around them more resource efficient and comfortable. Join Sean Reed, Program Developer for City of Ann Arbor, and the LSC staff to see the unique features of our own sustainable building. Find out how we recycle our grey water. Determine with your nose the usefulness and appropriateness of the composting toilets. Feel the heat radiating from the mass wall. See the beauty of the decorative recycled glass tiles and sunflower chaff counter tops. These are just a few of the features that we'll see during this interactive Nature House tour.

Dr. Louise Jones is director of the interior design undergraduate and graduate programs at EMU. She will discuss environmentally friendly furnishings and finishes for residential and non-residential interior spaces. Robert Black, an architect specializing in sun-filled spaces since 1974, will discuss green buildings.
